JKPG Represent

China - RIP

The year was 2008 and something had started to grow in the holy Mecca of Sweden. JKPGHC started putting up their shows at China and something started to move in the scene. Sure, they put up the big drawing cards from overseas like Have Heart, Bane, Ceremony and Die Young amongst others, but what I will remember are the performances by bands like Hårda Tider & Balance. It felt like the domestic scene was starting to get a push in the right direction again.

But everything that has a beginning has an end. And so in late 2008 the municipality of Jönköping decided that one of the best scenes in Sweden should be trashed into shops and apartments. Later on they got a new scene but it never got the same. But the godforsaken city fueled by a youth of hatred kept producing music like never before. Amongst bands like Negative Attack, Bad Intentions, In I Elden and others two stands out more than the others.

On one side we got Values with their fast Champion inspired hardcore carrying the youth-crew flag further on. On the other side we got Big Deal with an aggressive sound that just make you want to smash someone’s head in. And the front man doesn’t make you lose that will to kill. Today both bands have found their home at the newly founded label Green Menace Records. This fall Big Deal will release a split with label mates Never Again, be sure to pick it up at your local ghetto store in the hood. And the big question is, when will Values stop cancelling almost every show.
